For Goodyear's June Dealer of the Month, Commercial Tire Service, Success Begins with Fast, Responsive Service

When Commercial Tire Service tire technicians respond to service calls on the roads and highways in and around Chicago, their first thoughts are about getting the customer back on the road.

That's what Paul Pavia, the company's president and owner, expects.

"Our dealership has built its reputation on service, on getting truck operators back on the road as quickly as possible at the most reasonable cost," Pavia said. "Our technicians are not about trying to sell them our most expensive tires or things they don't need. Our customers come first.

"If our technicians see issues such as feathering or a flattened tread that they think could be solved by different Goodyear products, they'll mention that," Pavia added. "But they do what needs to be done to get the truck back on the road, provide guidance on how operators can avoid other potential problems and allow the customer to make the decision of what to do."

That service attitude has earned Commercial Tire Service respect among truck operators and fleets in the Chicago area. It's also helped earn the company designation as The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month for June 2010. Each month, Goodyear honors its top dealers that provide customers outstanding service, while helping them choose from among the Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly tire brands. The Dealer of the Month honor recognizes Commercial Tire Service for helping customers make full use of Goodyear services, such as fleetHQ, TVTRACK and GTRACS automated retread tracking system.

"It's a great honor for our dealership to be chosen by Goodyear as its Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month," Pavia said. "This recognition wouldn't be possible without the hard work and dedication of my employees. I think this honor makes us all feel good to know that our efforts are recognized by Goodyear. It makes us feel appreciated."

Commercial Tire Service began operating in 1989 when Pavia, a former Goodyear commercial account manager, joined a business partner to buy an existing tire service facility from its retiring owner and convert it into a Goodyear dealership. In 2004, Pavia separated from his business partner and set out to build a business with five locations near the center of Chicagoland: two in Melrose Park, one in Glendale Heights, one in Aurora and one in Lake in the Hills.

"Our locations allow us to more easily serve areas toward the north and south," Pavia said. Commercial Tire Service has 26 service trucks that operate from its five locations. The dealer serves truck operators in a variety of applications, from line haul and local delivery, to construction and county and municipal government agencies. Fast and responsive roadside service is crucial, particularly in the Chicago area. If trucks are disabled for any reason, it is important that companies get their trucks back up and running quickly.

"That fast and responsive service has helped us gain the trust of our customers," he added. "They begin to see how our recommendations for Goodyear products such as tires and retreads with Fuel Max Technology can help them save money on fuel costs; or how Goodyear UniCircle or precure retreads can help them get more miles to removal from their original tire casings. We also help them develop good maintenance practices."

Ongoing training programs available through Goodyear have helped keep Commercial Tire Service employees knowledgeable about new tire technology developments and maintenance practices, Pavia said.

"Our success has also been helped by Goodyear's fleetHQ," he added. "Through fleetHQ's Preferred Fleet program, I can offer my customers national pricing for tires and tire-related services. If they need service anywhere in the U.S., they call one number and can get back up and running fast. And whether we service them here in Chicago, or on the road elsewhere, all invoicing comes through us. It really helps us provide a value to our fleet customers."
