Moore's Tire Earns Goodyear's August Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month Honor by Staying True to Founder's Legacy

When potential customers tour Moore’s Goodyear Truck Tire & Service Center’s retread plant in Shreveport, La., chances are Moore’s will get their business.

“Ninety-five percent of the customers who take the plant tour end up giving us their business because of what they see here,” said Daniel Hutchison, president of Moore’s Goodyear Truck Tire & Service Centers. “We take pride in the fact that our stringent quality controls result in almost no returns. Customers are impressed with the state-of-the-art equipment we use in the plant and the quality control measures we employ in making their retreads.”

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. chose Moore’s Tire as its August Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month, in part, for its quality retreading.

Each month, Goodyear honors its top dealers, who provide outstanding service for commercial fleet customers and truck operators. The Dealer of the Month honor recognizes Moore’s Tire for helping fleets and truck operators solve problems through fleetHQ’s portfolio of business solutions. That includes helping them choose from Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly tires, delivering outstanding service and providing information solutions that help them make better business decisions. Moore’s Tire also takes full advantage of Goodyear’s training resources and tools for dealers.

“We’re very honored that Goodyear has chosen us as their Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month for August,” Hutchison said. “Moore’s Tire has a long history of serving truck fleets and operators in the community by meeting their operational needs. Goodyear has made it easier by offering products like the Goodyear G282 MSD, which is a popular tire in the oil fields, and services like fleetHQ’s Solution Center and TVTrack, Goodyear’s tire performance management system.

Moore’s Tire manufactures retreaded tires using Goodyear’s patented UniCircle® method, plus a pre-cure method. Paying close attention to the manufacturing process and having trained personnel on staff are the principal ways Moore’s Tire maintains such high quality standards.

Hutchison said Moore’s Tire also strongly encourages fleet customers to make use of GTRACS, Goodyear’s automated system for tracking casings. With GTRACS, fleets can make more informed decisions about their tire operations because the system tracks the lifecycle of the retread and documents repair histories.

Dedication to high-quality products and service has been a part of the Moore’s Tire history since 1960, when company founder Barney Moore opened a one-store tire operation in Shreveport, La. Moore’s tire business grew to a group of 17 commercial and retail locations and a retread plant when Moore hired Daniel Hutchison as general manager of the company’s retread shop. In 1983, Moore’s Tire became a Goodyear dealer and eventually grew into a 37-outlet operation, including its retread facility.

In 1990, Hutchison and his business partner, Jim Draper, bought 12 Moore’s Tire locations, including five commercial tire centers and a retread plant. Hutchison and Draper continued the Goodyear dealership operation under the same company name, staying true to Barney Moore’s legacy of service excellence. Moore’s Tire operates three commercial tire locations in Louisiana: Shreveport, Alexandria and Monroe; plus two more in east Texas: Longview and Lufkin.

Hutchison said the company has benefited from the relationships that its employees have developed with customers over the years.

“Our success is due in large measure to our employees,” he added. “We were fortunate to keep many of them when we bought our 12 locations. These are good, quality people whom we didn’t want to lose because of their expertise and knowledge.”

Hutchison said he and his business partner make a concerted effort to provide Moore’s Tire employees with the additional training and resources they need to be successful.

“Goodyear makes it easier by providing resources like Goodyear University, which helps our employees stay current with the latest in new tire developments and technology,” he added.
